Palo Alto, Calif. (February 12, 2025) – UTR Sports, creator of the global UTR Pro Tennis Tour (PTT), is excited to announce the first eight PTT events that will include off-court coaching.
This new opportunity aligns with UTR Sports’ mission to build new models that strengthen and improve players’ games. By adding in coaching, the PTT, already the premier tour for rising professional tennis players, becomes even more focused on player progress.
The trial will debut at PTT women's events in Boca Raton, Fla., Newport Beach, Calif., and Olomouc, Czech Republic, during the week of February 17. The following week, coaching will be featured at men's tournaments in Boca Raton and Newport Beach, as well as a women’s event in Atlanta, Ga. These events will be followed in early March with expansion to the Croatia and United Kingdom dual-gender tournaments.
“We’re thrilled to be launching off-court coaching on a global scale,” said James McKie, UTR Sports Director of Player Relations. “We have listened to players and will continue to gather feedback as we support their journey to the top.”
Coaching will be permitted:
-
Through non-verbal instructions between points, during the set break and changeovers when sitting on the bench
-
Through verbal communication, but only when the player and coach are at the same end of the court between points
-
Players may seek coaching during any delay in the match caused by weather or their opponent
Coaching will not be allowed during authorized toilet breaks or when players are receiving medical time-outs.
UTR Sports will gather feedback from players, coaches and officials throughout the first eight events. Those insights will help inform the future expansion of off-court coaching to PTT events globally.
