The UTR Pro Summer Slam National Championships, held Aug. 29-Sept. 1 at the University of San Diego, capped off a groundbreaking 15-week, $450,000 UTR Pro Summer Slam series of 16 men’s and women’s tournaments held from May-Sept across 15 U.S. college campuses.

Only players who had won a Summer Slam event were able to gain automatic entry into the National Championships, and the majority of players were either current or former college players. Anderson, a UCLA alumni, won a Summer Slam event in Atlanta in June, for her third UTR PTT title overall, while Johnson, a 2025 Florida graduate, won three Summer Slam events this summer.

The UTR PTT offers guaranteed prize money and multiple matches per tournament, thanks to an innovative round-robin format. Anderson (UTR 11.07) actually went 2-1 in pool play action, before winning her semifinal over Jaeden Brown (10.43) handily and eventually outlasting 12-time UTR PTT champion Veronika Miroshnichenko (10.76) in Monday’s final, 7-6(1), 1-6, 6-3.

"I don't know that there's a routine, necessarily," Anderson said ahead of the final. "But honestly, just trying to focus on competing, working for every point, trying to be really steady, trying to get a groove early on, and figure out her game. That's it."

Johnson (13.10) went undefeated throughout the weekend before upsetting top seed Miles Jones (13.45), 6-2, 7-6(2) in the final.

"I think it's just enjoying the moment," Johnson said of his experience in San Diego. "It's awesome to be out here. I just have to take advantage of every opportunity that I get to be here and play. It's what I want to be doing."

UTR PTT matches are streamed live on Amazon Prime Video. Check out the full schedule here.
