It’s the biggest, busiest, and boldest US Open ever — and the main draw hasn’t even started yet. UTR Sports is bringing you insight into the men’s favorites and dark horses to watch as the last Grand Slam of the year gets underway.
This year, the US Open shifted the mixed doubles tournament to Fan Week (now Week 1) on top of the qualifying events and packing in even more entertainment like the Stars of the Open, a Block Party, and even a reality dating show. For the first time ever, the main draw starts on a Sunday, spanning from August 24-September 7.
In case you missed it, the new mixed doubles event was a roaring success, with Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori defeating Iga Swiatek and Casper Ruud in Wednesday’s final.
Previewing the 2025 US Open Men's Draw
Now all eyes are turning to the “New Two” in New York: Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner, who have dominated the last seven Grand Slams:
2024 Australian Open — Jannik Sinner
2024 Roland Garros — Carlos Alcaraz
2024 Wimbledon — Carlos Alcaraz (def. Sinner)
2024 US Open — Jannik Sinner
2025 Australian Open — Jannik Sinner
2025 Roland Garros — Carlos Alcaraz (def. Sinner)
2025 Wimbledon — Jannik Sinner (def. Alcaraz)
Alcaraz started his Grand Slam dominance a bit earlier than the Italian and has one more major (five to Sinner’s four) by also winning the 2022 US Open and 2023 Roland Garros trophies.
With help from UTR Sports INSIGHTS, let’s break down the 2025 US Open men’s singles draw. INSIGHTS provides analytics, predictions, and stats you can't find anywhere else.
2025 US Open Men’s Draw Favorites
Jannik Sinner (UTR Rating 16.45)
Despite his hiccup in the Cincinnati final (retiring against Alcaraz), Sinner is the top-ranked men’s player in the US Open men’s draw in the ATP Tour rankings and according to UTR Rating. Per INSIGHTS, he's the top favorite with 24% odds of winning it all again — the reigning Wimbledon and Australian Open champion is also the defending US Open winner.

Carlos Alcaraz (16.38)
Alcaraz’s comfortability at the US Open is next level, and his 20% odds of winning again in New York shows it. The Spaniard won his first major in just his second appearance in New York. Since May, Alcaraz has captured four of the five events he’s played, losing only to Sinner at Wimbledon.
Novak Djokovic (16.32)
Though the 37-year-old Serbian has been knocked off the throne by the younger generation, he’s still a contender. Novak Djokovic is seeking Grand Slam No. 25, on a stage where he’s won four times (most recently in 2023).
2025 US Open Men’s Singles Draw Dark Horses
Jack Draper (16.14)
With a No. 5 seeding next to his name and 5% odds of winning his first major, Jack Draper may seem like a painfully obvious dark horse, or even a favorite, but given his newness to the top echelon on tour, he’s still an underdog. The 2025 Indian Wells champion reached the semifinals of the US Open last year — by far his best run at a major.

Jiri Lehecka (15.99)
The 23-year-old Czech is ranked No. 21 on the ATP rankings but inside the Top 10 according to UTR Rating (No. 8), making him a dark horse in the US Open men’s draw. His run to the Queen’s Club final this summer included a win over Jack Drape. Like Draper, Lehecka is still finding his rhythm at the Grand Slam level.
Joao Fonseca (15.83)
The 19-year-old Brazilian is lurking unseeded in the lower half of the draw. Though he’s ranked No. 44 on the ATP Tour, he’s Top-20 material per UTR Rating. He's in a section of the draw full of shiny new faces: seeds Tomas Machac and Jakub Mensik.
The UTR Pro Tennis Tour Connection
Ben Shelton (15.91) is one of 61 players in the US Open singles draws that has competed on the UTR Pro Tennis Tour (UTR PTT), and one of 17 in the main draw. He’s joined by the likes of Tristan Boyer (three-time UTR PTT champion) and Alex Michelsen (two-time UTR PTT champion), as well as Brandon Holt, Ethan Quinn, and many more.
Quinn is also a 2024 Universal Tennis Foundation Hurd Award champion — the men’s and women’s draws include eight Hurd Award recipients.
