Breaking Down the Wimbledon 2024 Women’s Favorites
(1) Iga Swiatek (13.30)
Of course, Iga Swiatek is the leading favorite at the All England Club given her summer — she hasn’t lost a match since April and is the INSIGHTS favorite with a whopping 38% odds of winning. But her winning has come on clay with Madrid, Rome, and Roland Garros, and grass is famously her least favorite surface. The 22-year-old Pole is the clear WTA No. 1 and the player to beat, but if anyone is going to knock her out of the running, Wimbledon is the place to do it. Her best run at SW19 was reaching the quarterfinals last year and she’s drawn 2020 Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin in the first round.(4) Elena Rybakina (12.99)
As the 2022 Wimbledon champion, Elena Rybakina knows her way around Centre Court. Though she’s dealt with illnesses in 2024, the Kazakh has won three titles and reached the finals in Doha and Miami. She’s landed in the same half of the draw as Swiatek and opens against qualifier Elena-Gabriela Ruse.

Wild card Emma Raducanu is boasting a high UTR Rating which has propelled her inside of the Top 10 by UTR rankings. As the 2021 US Open champion and a local hero, the British 21-year-old has rekindled her form lately. Though she didn’t play Roland Garros, Raducanu picked up wins over Sloane Stephens and Jessica Pegula during the brief grass season. She’ll be tested right away as she will face No. 22 seed Ekaterina Alexandrova.
(WC) Naomi Osaka (12.63)
After holding a match point against Swiatek at Roland Garros, few could doubt that Osaka’s peak form was surging. Though her grass-court results have been average (she’s gone 2-2), Osaka has nothing to lose and should be swinging freely. The four-time Grand Slam champion has never gone beyond the third round at Wimbledon and opens against Diane Perry.
Wimbledon 2024 Matches to Watch
(1) Iga Swiatek (13.30) vs. Sofia Kenin (11.71)
No one wants to face Kenin in the first round of a major — just ask Coco Gauff. Kenin took out Gauff in the first round of Wimbledon last year and could pull off a bigger feat if she knocks out Swiatek. Swiatek owns a 2-0 record against the American, recently defeating her at this year’s Australian Open in two tight sets.(2) Coco Gauff (12.78) vs. Caroline Dolehide (11.87)
Gauff may be feeling a sense of deja vu as she gets set to face compatriot Caroline Dolehide. An unseeded Kenin ended her run before it began last year at the All England Club. Just like with Swiatek and Kenin though, Gauff holds a 2-0 record over Dolehide and got past her at the Australian Open in January.UTR Pro Tennis Tour Players in the Field
Three UTR Pro Tennis Tour (PTT) players have qualified for the main draw — no easy feat as they had to win three matches this week in Roehampton.
American McCartney Kessler battled through qualifying to earn her Wimbledon main draw debut. The three-time PTT finalist won her first Grand Slam match earlier this year in Melbourne. She will face No. 9 seed Maria Sakkari.
Kessler’s compatriot Katie Volynets cruised through three matches as the top seed to secure her berth in the main draw. The 22-year-old is seeking her first Wimbledon win but has been as far as the third round at a major before (the 2023 Australian Open).
Another qualifier who won a PTT title last year, is a 24-year-old Yuliia Starodubtseva. She will be seeking her first Grand Slam main draw victory next week against Alison van Uytvanck.
Bradenton 2022 PTT champion Taylor Townsend earned automatic entry into the main draw and will face Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.
