According to UTR Sports INSIGHTS, Sabalenka was the favorite going into the final with a higher UTR Rating and a recent win over Gauff. The prediction tool showed Sabalenka at 65% odds before the final.
But the young American had all the faith in herself, having written a note to herself the night before.
“I wrote, ‘I will be French Open champion 2025’ like a bunch of times…” Gauff said. “Looking at myself in the mirror, so I was trying to instill that belief, and obviously it happened.”

Gauff's WTA ranking was No. 2 before and after Roland Garros. She entered the fortnight as one of the clear tournament favorites, but her UTR Rating was below Sabalenka’s, and the Belarusian had just beaten Gauff in the Madrid final. Gauff was also one spot below Sabalenka in the WTA Tour rankings.

Gauff becomes the first American woman to win Roland Garros in 10 years (since Serena Williams in 2015), and the youngest since Williams in 2002.
"This is one I really wanted because I do think this was one of the tournaments that when I was younger that I felt I had the best shot of winning,” Gauff said.

In the women’s semifinal, Gauff ended the dream run of French wild card Lois Boisson (11.96). Boisson stunned Jessica Pegula (12.75) and Mirra Andreeva (12.94), sending Boisson’s rating from 11.79 to 11.96. Her win over Andreeva was the biggest upset of the major, per UTR Sports INSIGHTS, with a 0.98 rating differential.
