👥 Q: How will the teams be decided?

We want every single match over the weekend to be an absolute thriller! To make sure the competition is as balanced, fair, and exciting as possible, we use an automated system to build the teams.

Here is exactly how the team selection process works:

Q: How does the team drafting process work?

A: Teams are built using a structured "snake draft" format based entirely on players' verified UTR levels.

  1. First, the UTR team will randomly draw the order of our team mentors.
  2. The automated system will start with the highest verified UTR on the boys' side and place them onto teams using the snake format.
  3. Once the boys' teams are set, the system runs the exact same process for the girls' side.

Q: What is a 'snake draft' and why do you use it?

A: In a snake draft, the selection order reverses every round. For example, in Round 1, players are assigned to teams in order: 1–2–3–4. In Round 2, the order flips: 4–3–2–1.

This clever format prevents any single team from getting all the top-ranked players, resulting in perfectly balanced teams and much closer, more competitive matches all weekend long!

Q: Is the team selection fair?

A: Absolutely. The entire draft process is 100% automated and based strictly on verified UTR data. This ensures an completely objective, fair, and performance-based team selection. No guesswork, no favoritism—just great tennis.

Q: When will we find out what team we are on?

A: The big reveal happens during the Saturday morning Welcome Ceremony! Both players and parents will find out their final team groupings, meet their coaches/mentors, and get ready to hit the courts.

🎾 Q: How do the match format and scoring work?

To give players a true taste of college tennis, this event mirrors the high-energy Division I dual-match team format. It is fast-paced, team-focused, and incredibly exciting!

Q: How are individual matches scored?

A: We use a modified college scoring system designed to keep matches moving while ensuring plenty of great tennis:

  • Doubles Matches: Teams will play one set to 6 games with no-ad scoring. The school/team that wins 2 out of the 3 doubles matches earns 1 overall team point.
  • Singles Matches: Players will compete in "short sets" to 4 games with no-ad scoring. If a set hits a 3–3 tie, a thrilling 10-point tiebreak will decide the winner. Each individual singles victory earns 1 overall team point.

💡 Bonus: Every single match will be played out to completion! This guarantees that every player gets meaningful, verified court time to boost their UTR.

Q: What is the tournament structure?

A: The weekend is split into two exciting stages:

  1. The Round Robin: All four teams will play against each other once. This guarantees that every team faces the entire field before final standings are locked in.
  2. The Finals: Once the round robin concludes, the top two teams advance to the Championship Final to play for the trophy. The remaining two teams will battle it out in the 3rd/4th Place Playoff.

Q: How are the team standings and tie-breakers decided?

A: Consistent performance is the key to moving up the leaderboard! Teams are ranked primarily by their total Dual-Match Wins.

If teams are tied at the end of the round robin, we will use the following tie-breaker steps (in order) to determine who advances to the finals:

  • 🥇 Head-to-head results (Who won when the two tied teams played each other?)
  • 🥈 Highest set winning percentage
  • 🥉 Highest game winning percentage This setup ensures that every single game and set matters all weekend long, rewarding teams that compete hard from the first serve to the final point!

⚖️ Q: Is this event NCAA compliant?

A: Yes, 100%! This event is open to any and all entrants.

The only factors that limit registration are standard event structural limits:

  • 🔢 Total capacity (spots are first-come, first-served!)
  • 🎂 Age
  • 🚻 Gender

As long as spots are available and you fit the demographic for the camp, you are fully cleared to sign up and play!

🚗 Q: Is parking included with my registration fee at USC?

Parking Information (USC Campus)

A: Parking costs are not covered by the registration fee. All players, parents, and spectators will be responsible for their own parking fees while visiting the USC campus.

🚗 Q: At Duke, is parking included with registration, and how much does it cost?

A: Parking costs are not covered by the registration fee, so players and parents are responsible for their own parking. Official campus parking passes are $11 and can be easily paid for directly from your phone as soon as you arrive.

Q: Is there a free parking alternative nearby?

A: Yes! If you would prefer to save on parking fees, you can park at the Washington Duke Hotel nearby:

  • 📍 Address: 3001 Cameron Blvd, Durham, NC 27705
  • 🚶 Distance: It is a beautiful, easy 10-minute walk from the hotel to the tennis facility.
