July 18, 2024 (Palo Alto, Calif.) — UTR Sports is happy to be returning as the presenting partner of College Night at the Atlanta Open, an ATP 250 event taking place July 20-28, in Atlanta, Ga.
College Night presented by UTR Sports will be Tuesday, July 23, and will showcase recent Georgia Tech standout Andres Martin under the lights against a to-be-determined opponent.
The 32-player field includes promising Americans, such as 2023 US Open semifinalist Ben Shelton, 2022 US Open semifinalist Frances Tiafoe, and the up-and-coming Brandon Nakashima.
This will mark the third consecutive year that Martin (UTR Rating 13.96) has competed in College Night. During his first showing, he stunned Aussie Thanasi Kokkinakis in his ATP 250 debut. Last year, Martin fell to former Georgia Tech star and 2023 Wimbledon quarterfinalist Christopher Eubanks in straight sets.
College Night presented by UTR Sports will once again show how college tennis, more than ever, remains a successful pathway to the professional ranks.
UTR Sports supports and elevates this pathway in several ways, including creating opportunities for players to develop their games through College Circuits, open prize-money tournaments held on college campuses, and the UTR Pro Tennis Tour (PTT), where aspiring pros receive guaranteed matchplay and prize money.
This year’s College Night will be especially meaningful as this is the final edition of the Atlanta Open.
“We are excited to again partner with the Atlanta Open and sponsor College Night. UTR Sports is all about providing opportunities for college tennis players and aspiring professionals, and College Night at the Atlanta Open is a great opportunity to combine the excitement of college and pro tennis in one special atmosphere,” said Chase Hodges, UTR Sports Vice President/GM.
Since the UTR PTT started in 2021, the tour has completed nearly 700 tournaments and has regularly seen past and current players compete at the Grand Slam level.
American Taylor Townsend, who won the 2024 Wimbledon women’s doubles title and will play an exhibition match against Sloane Stephens on Sunday in Atlanta, started her pro tennis comeback on the UTR PTT in 2022. PTT matches are live-streamed on Amazon Prime, which further elevates the sport globally.
Martin recently completed an illustrious career at Georgia Tech, where he benefited from UTR Sports tournaments as he built his level. He went 22-4 last season at the No. 1 singles spot for the Yellow Jackets and finished as an All-American in singles for the second time.
Martin is currently pursuing a professional tennis career and has already competed in PTT tournaments and College Circuits.
