4 min read

The youth are in full force this week at the US Open with plenty of big stars mixing in with fast-rising new faces. Monday will see 17-year-old Coco Gauff take the court, as well as 20-year-old Brandon Nakashima and recent USTA 18's champions Ashlyn Krueger and Zach Svajda.

Let’s take a look at some of the matchups for Tuesday featuring players that are part of the “next gen” movement, meaning they're 21 or under.

JANNIK SINNER

Jannik Sinner (UTR Rating 15.51*) leads the young male contingent with his No. 13 seeding. He opens on Tuesday against wild card Max Purcell (UTR Rating 14.58). According to

Universal Tennis INSIGHTS, Sinner has an 89% chance of moving into the second round. The 20-year-old Italian has yet to win a match at the US Open but with a lot of confidence from winning his first ATP 500 in Washington, D.C. last month, this looks like it's going to be the year.

IGA SWIATEK

Iga Swiatek

(UTR Rating 12.98) is seeded No. 7 and opens her campaign with a first-round clash against American qualifier Jamie Loeb

(UTR Rating 11.72). According to INSIGHTS, Swiatek should have no trouble with 94% odds of advancing. Swiatek made the third round in New York last year before finding her footing on clay to win Roland Garros. The first seed Swiatek could meet is No. 27 Anett Kontaveit

(UTR Rating 12.75).

JENSON BROOKSBY

Wild card Jenson Brooksby

(UTR Rating 15.30) is a new face on tour but he’s made a huge impact in 2021. The 20-year-old spent a season at Baylor before turning pro in 2020. This year, he won the UTR Pro Tennis Tour event in Newport Beach to start his breakthrough season. During the summer, he made his first ATP final at the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, before reaching the Citi Open semifinals in Washington, D.C. He opens against Mikael Ymer

(UTR Rating 15.03) with INSIGHTS giving Brooksby the edge at 65% to 35%.

CLARA TAUSON

At 18 years old, Denmark’s Clara Tauson

(UTR Rating 12.65) is making her US Open debut. She opens against another Clara, 20-year-old Frenchwoman Clara Burel

(UTR Rating 12.23). INSIGHTS predicts Tauson winning with 70% odds. Tauson just won her second title of 2021, the WTA 125K in Chicago, beating British teenager Emma Raducanu

(UTR Rating 12.36) in the final. Raducanu qualified in New York and will play her first US Open main draw match against No. 13 seed Jennifer Brady

(UTR Rating 12.91). In her Wimbledon debut last month, Radacanu enjoyed an exhilarating run to the fourth round.
