UTR Event Recap: Noah Rubin Claims First Ever Saint Barnabas Medical Center UTR Men’s Singles Championship

In what turned out to be an extremely successful weekend, filled with high intensity tennis and fun-filled extracurriculars, Long Island’s own Noah Rubin claimed the first place prize with a 6-1, 6-3 victory in the final.
With some incredible point play back and forth between the two finalists, Rubin proved to be the more dominant of the two as he sealed his straight set win. In addition to the Men’s Open final, the Men’s 40s final featured some high quality of play of its own, with Martin Bengtsson claiming the title.
Sunday’s main event featured over 300 people in attendance at Centercourt Athletic Club of Chatham. As the morning rain and clouds sailed on, making way for afternoon sunshine, fans in attendance were treated to not only high quality tennis, along with some fabulous food by Mexican Spice food truck, cocktails from the 13thstreetcocktails’ retro camper and live music by Poet Section.
In addition to the conclusion of tournament play, those in attendance were able to participate in the New York Open Skills Challenge.
From New York City, the New York Open Skills Challenge team ran 2 courts filled with junior and adult players alike where they competed against one another for the best forehand, backhand and volley!
A big thank you to our Premier Sponsor: Saint Barnabas Medical Center and to our Official Event Sponsors: New York Open Skills Challenge, Dunlop, New Balance and UTR.
