July Monthly Spotlight at UTR Sports

3 minute read

After an eventful four weeks of tennis all over the country, Universal Tennis is recognizing the newcomer, club, and event of the month for July.

Newcomer of the Month: Quince Orchard Tennis

Quince Orchard Tennis, located in Gaithersburg, Md., has four year-round hard courts with the same Deco Turf II surface as the US Open. Starting in July, Quince Orchard Tennis has hosted five one-day matchplay events with 54 players taking part. A Fast4 format allows players to compete in two guaranteed matches in just two hours with all results counting toward their Verified UTR Ratings.

Club of the Month: Oregon Elite Tennis

In Beaverton, Ore. at the Babette Horenstein Tennis Center, Oregon Elite Tennis has run Universal Tennis one-day co-ed singles and doubles events every weekend in July, with more scheduled for August. The academy specializes in training competitive juniors, though the level-based events have been open to all ages. Currently, more than 50 players are signed up for a One Day Doubles UTR Event in early August.

Doubles teams are grouped based on UTR Ratings to provide competitive matches and level-based play, and all players are guaranteed three matches (the format is pro sets).

Oregon Elite Tennis has been hosting co-ed singles and doubles events this summer.

Event of the Month: 1st Annual Serving Advantage and Second Serve Club Charity Tennis Tournament

During the last weekend of July, the Racquet Club of Irvine hosted the 1st Annual Serving Advantage and Second Serve Club Charity Tennis Tournament at the Laguna Niguel Racquet Club. Raising thousands of dollars for Serving Advantage, events included adult and open men’s and women’s singles and doubles, mixed doubles, and juniors, with 70 players participating.

Serving Advantage is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is “to help children with special needs develop a love and passion for tennis by ‘serving them the advantage’ with social skills needed for everyday life, while also promoting awareness and acceptance for the special needs community.”
