Tournament Guide: Citi Open
The world’s top players are hitting the hard courts (and braving the heat!) at the Citi Open this week in Washington DC. The 50th edition of the Citi Open features an incredible lineup including Andy Murray, Kevin Anderson, Sloane Stephens and Caroline Wozniacki. Here’s a quick guide to this exciting mid-summer tournament.
Where is the Citi Open?
The Citi Open is held at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center in Washington DC and runs through August 5th.
Who’s playing?
Returning champion Alexander Zverev, John Isner, Andy Murray, Frances Tiafoe and Denis Shapovalov are representing the ATP, while stars like Caroline Wozniacki, Sloane Stephens, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Naomi Osaka are competing for the women’s title.
No. 13 seed Frances Tiafoe is looking to win his first match at his hometown tournament. Tiafoe grew up in nearby Hyattsville, MD and used to attend as a fan!
Who are the past winners?
Recent ATP champions include Juan Martín del Potro, Kei Nishikori, Milos Raonic, with Andre Agassi winning the title for a record 5 times. The WTA event started in 2011, with winners including Ekaterina Makarova, Sloane Stephens and two-time winner Magdalena Rybarikova.
