The Top-10 Canadian Collegiate Men & Women Players
Last week, we highlighted the top-10 American players in Collegiate tennis. Today, we’re taking a look at their neighbors to the north and checking out the top-10 Canadian men and women in collegiate tennis.
While many people might associate Canadian athletes with winter sports like hockey or curling, the country is home to some fantastic tennis players. Team UTR sorted the top-10 Canadian collegiate men and women based on their current UTRs, which take into account the matches played over the last three months, creating the rating based on score, strength of competition and match history.
Marie-Alexandre Leduc, the No.1 singles and doubles seed junior at Clemson, takes the top ranking for Canadian collegiate women. Hailing from Saguenay, Quebec, Leduc reached the singles semifinals at the 2017 ITA Carolina Regionals in Chapel Hill, NC and reached the singles quarterfinals at the 2017 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Indian Wells.
In the top spot for Canadian men is Benjamin Sigouin, a freshman at University of North Carolina. As a freshman, Sigouin has already climbed to the No.1 and No. 2 singles spot on the team. Sigouin was the top-ranked recruit in the 2017 class and came to UNC ranked No. 4 in the ITF World Junior Rankings. He is a six-time Canadian National Champion and was a member of the 2015 Junior Davis Cup team which won a championship for Canada.
