The Top-10 Aussies in College Tennis
We’ve looked at the top-10 Americans and Canadians in Collegiate tennis this year. Today, we’re moving across the world and looking at the best Aussies in college tennis. This year, two seniors lead the pack so it will be exciting to see how their collegiate careers finish and who will rise up to claim the top spots next year.
Team UTR sorted the top-10 Australian collegiate men and women players based off of their current UTRs, which takes into account the matches played over the last three months, creating the rating based on score, strength of competition and match history.
Aleksandar Vukic (UTR 14.73) takes the top spot for Australian men this year. The 6’2 University of Illinois senior hails from Sydney and has earned top honors throughout his college career, including the 2017 ITA All-American (Singles), 2017 Big Ten Athlete of the Year and 2017 First-Team All-Big Ten. His 2018 season record so far is 8-3 in singles and 102-16 for his entire collegiate career. Aleksander is majoring in Business, and when he’s not studying or playing tennis, he’s playing basketball, hanging out with friends and watching movies.
Leading the pack for Australian women is Astra Sharma (UTR 12.10), a 5’10 Vanderbilt University redshirt senior from Perth. In 2017, Astra was named the 2017 SEC Player of the Year, 2017 All American in singles and doubles, and was the No.1 overall seed at the NCAA Doubles Tournament, among many other awards. Her career singles record is 94-28. Astra started playing college at age 5 and is majoring in Medicine, Health, and Society at Vanderbilt.
