After tennis events took place all over the country all month long, Universal Tennis is recognizing the newcomer, club, and event of the month for October.
Club of the Month: Rollingwood Athletic Club (Sacramento, California)
The Rollingwood Athletic Club is spread across more than 10 acres, offering tennis, swim, and fitness. The private club, which features 12 tennis courts, ran 11 Universal Tennis events in October, bringing its total events to over 100 since joining Universal Tennis.
Organizers have incorporated their existing programs such as Friday matchplay and clinics with the Universal Tennis platform and host level-based clinics to help get players ready for competitive matchplay. Rollingwood even hosted a UTR Pro Tennis Tour Watch Party for the PTT Sacramento Men's $25K Hard 1 held during the week of Oct. 4 and won by Princeton University's Will Peters.
Newcomer of the Month: Spider Tennis (Dallas, Texas)
The Courts McKinney, just outside of Dallas, has 23 tennis courts and 14 teaching professionals. The facility hosted two Spider Tennis events for competitive singles Verified match play. They grouped players based on their UTR Rating and utilized the Fast4 round-robin format while guaranteeing three matches. The first one-day event drew 48 players in five divisions, while the second event in October saw 51 players in seven divisions.
Event of the Month: Jimmy Kvarme Adult Tournament (Sacramento, California)
Hosted at the Park Terrace Swimming & Tennis Club, the fourth annual Jimmy Kvarme Adult Tournament featured seven different draws based on UTR Rating for both men and women in singles and doubles. In a fun twist, the format was to play one deuce and then sudden death to decide long games.
The weekend's efforts raised more than $12,000 for charity benefiting cancer research. Kvarme, an avid member of both the swim and tennis club, passed away from cancer at the age of 19.
