John McEnroe Tennis Academy & Johnny Mac Tennis Project Partner with Universal Tennis

Today, Universal Tennis (UTR) announced a new partnership with John McEnroe Tennis Academy (JMTA) and Johnny Mac Tennis Project (JMTP), a 501(c)(3) organization, to foster the growth and development of aspiring young tennis players throughout the greater New York City area and beyond. JMTA was founded by Sportime clubs and tennis legend John McEnroe in 2010, at Sportime’s flagship facility on Randall’s Island in Manhattan, with the goal of providing talented athletes in the New York metropolitan area the opportunity to train and develop their games locally, while pursuing educational goals, and participating in a variety of other sports and extracurricular activities.

"Universal Tennis and UTR and its integrated system will be a valuable resource for our Academy Directors to measure and track player development. We look forward to working with Universal Tennis to provide opportunities for more kids to play tennis, and to grow the game." - Bennett Schlansky, JMTA Managing Director
JMTP, based at Sportime Randall’s Island, works with kids from underserved communities in New York City, introducing tennis as a life-long health and fitness activity through free school-based community programming, and, for the most dedicated athletes, providing a pathway towards college scholarships, industry careers and professional playing opportunities through scholarships to JMTA. “Universal Tennis and UTR and its integrated system will be a valuable resource for our Academy Directors to measure and track player development,” said JMTA Managing Director, Bennett Schlansky. “We look forward to working with Universal Tennis to provide opportunities for more kids to play tennis, and to grow the game.” JMTA and JMTP will leverage Universal Tennis’ suite of community tools and technology, including its tournament and event management system, to organize and run competitive, level-based tennis events on a year-round basis. The UTR Powered by Oracle tennis rating is now JMTA and JMTP’s official measurement of tennis skill level and will be used by coaches to evaluate players on a single system that works across age, gender and geography.
