Novak Djokovic is going for his eighth Wimbledon title on Sunday

Djokovic vs. Alcaraz: Previewing Wimbledon 2024 Men’s Singles Final

It will be déjà vu on Centre Court at Wimbledon on Sunday – Novak Djokovic versus Carlos Alcaraz with the men’s singles title on the line.

The pair will face off for the crown for the second consecutive year.

Djokovic (UTR Rating 16.22) leads their head-to-head 3-2, including their last two meetings. But it was Alcaraz who emerged from a five-set thriller last year for the Wimbledon trophy.

According to UTR Sports INSIGHTS, it is the young Spaniard who has the edge once again, with a 55 percent chance of victory.

Alcaraz (16.31) advanced into the championship match via a 6-7(1), 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win over Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals. The world No. 3 also ousted Medvedev at this stage in 2023.

At the age of 21, Alcaraz is already into his fourth Slam final. His record so far? A perfect 3-0 – the 2022 US Open, 2023 Wimbledon, and Roland Garros just a month ago.

Djokovic of course is also no stranger to playing with a title on the line. The 37-year-old has remarkably matched his age in Slam finals – 37. At stake for him is a 25th championship trophy and an eighth at Wimbledon. This will be his 10th appearance in the grass-court final.

Already possessing the most major singles titles ever for men, a win Sunday would put him ahead of Margaret Court’s 24 for the most of any tennis player, man or woman.

His run at the All England Club comes after he had to withdraw prior to the Roland Garros quarterfinals with a knee injury.

Fast forward a few weeks later, and this time he was the beneficiary of a walkover, with Alex de Minaur handing Djokovic a place in the final four due to a hip injury.

Once there, the world No. 2 eliminated the rising Italian Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 7-6(2), 6-4.

UTR Sports INSIGHTS successfully predicted both Alcaraz’s and Djokovic’s semifinal victories.

Representing two different generations, Djokovic and Alcaraz have already developed quite a rivalry, putting on a show in their contests.

The Serbian star won in straight sets in the ATP Finals semifinals at the end of last year, but their duel in the Cincinnati final in August was a classic.

One of the top matches of 2023 saw Djokovic claw back for a 5-7, 7-6(7), 7-6(4) triumph that was a drag-it-out battle on both sides.

Djokovic also claimed a victory in the French Open semifinals last year en route to the title, while Alcaraz notched the win column at Wimbledon and their first-ever meeting in the 2022 Madrid semifinals.

Sunday will be the riveting next chapter. And no matter who comes out on top, tennis fans will be the winner.
