CITI OPEN® Announces Partnership With UTR for Players in its Special Events and Clinics

We're headed to Washington, D.C. for the 50th Citi Open Tennis Tournament. And with some big news to share - UTR will be there as an official partner of the tournament! The Citi Open® Tennis Tournament is excited to partner with Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) Powered by Oracle to provide all tennis players with in-depth analysis of their tennis skill and run special UTR Powered Events throughout the tournament where players will be able to get their UTR rating and participate in dynamic, level-based tennis. UTR Powered by Oracle is the only global tennis rating system that compares all players, regardless of age, gender, or geography across a single, unified scale. The system is growing quickly worldwide and is being adopted by players, coaches, academies, colleges, clubs and organizers as the most reliable way to measure tennis skill level. UTR Powered by Oracle’s community platform provides a fully integrated event and tournament management system, where tennis events are organized around player UTRs to facilitate competitive, level-based play. The Citi Open will use UTR Powered by Oracle’s community platform, which includes a tournament and event management system, to run its special events such as the Doubles Pro-Am, as well as its clinics, including the Junior Summer Camp and Stars of Tomorrow 10U Competition. UTR Powered by Oracle, which is now the official rating of the Citi Open, will help pros running the clinics to easily determine how to best pair players together to facilitate competitive, fulfilling and challenging level-based play, and maximize player growth and learning potential during these events. The tournament will work with UTR to engage and connect with Citi Open fans throughout the year, with an eye towards building excitement for the 2019 Open where UTR will be used to run the pre-qualifying events. “Having this system at the Citi Open will not only bring an innovative twist to commemorate the 50th edition, but act as an integral resource to players to aid in overall development and skill,” said Keely O’Brien, Tournament Director. “The Citi Open is eager to witness firsthand the impact UTR Powered by Oracle has on the sport of tennis, especially for developing players.” Amateur players who compete in any of the clinics or mini tournaments, on and off site, will have the ability to get their UTR to assess their level and see where they stand among other players at the tournament and around the world. “We’re excited to partner with Citi Open to provide more opportunities for all players to find fun, competitive level-based tennis,” said Mark Leschly, Universal Tennis Chairman & CEO. “The Citi Open is a fantastic tournament that draws some of tennis’ most dynamic players, and we look forward to working with them to engage fans throughout the year.” Celebrating a monumental 50th edition this summer, the Citi Open will be held July 28 – August 5 at the Rock Creek Park Tennis Center, benefiting underserved and low-income kids in the D.C. community through the Washington Tennis & Education Foundation. Main draw matches of the tournament will be broadcast starting Monday, July 30, on Tennis Channel. Ticket packages and all single session tickets are available now.
