The Top Spaniards in College Tennis
This week, we are taking a look at this season’s best Spaniards in collegiate tennis.
UTR developed these rankings by sorting the players by their current UTRs (looking at the score, strength of competition and match history over the past three months) for a real-time view of their collegiate season.
University of Arkansas Senior Jose Salazar (UTR 14.32) finishes out his college career holding onto the top spot as the No. 1 Spaniard in college men’s tennis and the No. 25 singles player in the country. Jose transferred to Arkansas from Oklahoma University his sophomore year. Today, he is the lone senior for the Razorbacks and holds a team-best 17-6 singles record. Last year, the Tenerife, Spain native was named First Team All-SEC and an ITA All-American in doubles.
Florida Atlantic Sophomore Aliona Bolsova Zadoinov (UTR 12.19) climbs up to the top position for the women this year. Last year, the Paladrugell, Spain native was the No. 2 rated Spaniard in women’s collegiate tennis, playing for Oklahoma State. Aliona ranked as high as No. 4 in the ITF world junior rankings and earned multiple titles on the junior circuit. This season, she sits at 13-0 at the No. 1 singles spot for the Florida Atlantic Owls.
