Tennis South Africa announces partnership with UTR Powered by Oracle

Tennis South Africa (TSA) and Universal Tennis are excited to announce a new partnership, under which results from sanctioned TSA matches will now be included in Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) Powered by Oracle. UTR Powered by Oracle is a revolutionary system that provides a single, unifying language and standard for tennis players across ages, geographies and gender. Universal Tennis’ vision is to unify tennis for everyone by bringing cutting-edge analytics and community-based technology to players worldwide independent of level. Commencing shortly, scores from sanctioned TSA events will be included in the UTR Powered by Oracle database, which has more than 7M match results from 700,000+ players across 200 countries and is growing daily. All South African tennis players participating in TSA events will be able to get their UTR, compare themselves to players around the world, search players and track their progress. “We are excited to welcome Tennis South Africa to the UTR Powered by Oracle system,” said Mark Leschly, CEO & Chairman of Universal Tennis. “Now, players in South Africa can get rated and compare themselves to players worldwide via UTR’s unifying language and standard. We will work with TSA to promote level-based play and give players and organizers the tools to get rated, track progress and play more tennis, more often.” “This initiative is long overdue for tennis in South Africa and we are very excited by the potential benefits it will deliver to all of our players. Critically, it also means that, for the first time, we will be able to accurately benchmark our best junior players against the rest of the world,” concluded Richard Glover, CEO of TSA. TSA joins countries and federations from every continent that are submitting results to UTR and using the global system to track events and evaluate tennis players worldwide. How the rating works: UTR Powered by Oracle is an algorithm-based system for tennis that allows anyone to identify, measure, track and develop the level of a player. Every player receives a rating between 1 - 16.5 that reflects their level of play. Three factors go into the rating: player competition (ie strength of opponent), the score (based on games won), and recent history (last 30 matches played within 12 months). Players can use their UTR to know their skill level and find hitting partners and events within their levels. Coaches can use UTR to evaluate player ability and organize events based around skill level, rather than age or gender. You can learn more about the UTR Powered by Oracle rating system here.
