New Off-Court Coaching is Latest Innovation Coming to PTT in 2025
Palo Alto, Calif. (December 10, 2024) – UTR Sports, creator of the global UTR Pro Tennis Tour (PTT), today announced that it will trial off-court coaching at PTT events. This innovative addition to the PTT will begin in January 2025 at select U.S. tournaments.
Players throughout the world have been drawn to PTT $25K events since inception in 2021 due to the great formats offering guaranteed prize money and more matchplay. No other tour provides pro players the guaranteed matches like the PTT.
Adding off-court coaching will help UTR Sports further support the needs of players wishing to improve their game and advance on the pro pathway. Further, it aligns with UTR Sports’ mission of building new models that strengthen and improve player opportunity. The trial is starting in the U.S. to leverage the opportunity for feedback from coaches given the expansion of elite college programs into PTT as well as at select anchor venues to closely monitor the trial. Plans to expand to off-court coaching to PTT in Europe and Asia will follow a successful trial.
“We’re thrilled to add off-court coaching on the PTT tour now,” said Mark Leschly, Chairman and CEO of UTR Sports. “This exciting addition to the already successful PTT will enhance the player and coach experience and lead to a more valuable and dynamic tour for all participants."
Off-court coaching will be allowed in between points, at change of ends and set breaks, and at any other times such as delay in play because of weather conditions. Verbal communication will be allowed only when the player and coach are at the same end of the court; hand signals and non-verbal communication will be allowed whenever coaching is permitted. Coaching will not be allowed during an authorized toilet break or when a player is receiving a medical time-out.
