Club Spotlight: Universal Tennis Names Event, Club, and Newcomer of the Month for June

Tons of tennis was played all over the country thanks to Universal Tennis providers creating events and matchplay opportunities. Universal Tennis is recognizing the latest club, event, and newcomer for June.

Club of the Month: Cummings Athletics at the Cape (Virginia Beach, Va.)

Cummings Athletics at the Cape hosted 77 Universal Tennis events at the Cape Henry Racquet Club in June, including prize money events that have awarded over $40,000. The McDonald's Mid-Atlantic $30,000 Clay Court Championship, held in July, attracted top players such as Bryan Cernoch, Brian Shi, JC Aragone, and Hurricane Tyra Black with winners awarded $7,500.

Darryl Cummings, a Universal Tennis founder and NCAA college coach with over 20 years of experience, has over 900 members in his digital club. Cummings Athletics also runs recurring events such as Feeding Frenzy, Any Given Sunday, and Crack the Code with Cummings Athletics tennis director Dan McCain.


Newcomer of the Month: The Battle of Boston (Milton, Ma.)

Bringing prize money events to the greater Boston area, Curry College ran four events in June and has three more scheduled for July. Winners of the qualifying prize money events, called the Battle of Boston Qualifying Open Tournaments, earn $500 and entry into the Masters event. Hosted July 29-30, the Masters offers $1,000 guaranteed prize money to the open singles, doubles, and mixed champions. Curry College has also hosted junior circuit events and adult matchplay.


Event of the Month: De Moines Golf and Country Club (Des Moines, Iowa)

On July 9, the Des Moines Golf and Country Club hosted a Junior Circuit Qualifier UTR 1.0-2.99. They'll host two more Junior Circuit Qualifiers at the end of July, for rating ranges 1.0-2.99 and 3.0-4.99. Des Moines is one of many Junior Circuit host sites. Players that compete in two Circuit events will be eligible to play in the Regional Junior Circuit event.

The Junior Circuit consists of three seasons within the 2022 calendar year. Each season (spring, summer, and fall) will consist of qualifying tournaments leading up to an end-of-season regional tournament.
